Day 1 Arrival and old Belgrade
Your driver meets you at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. After settling in, walk with your guide through Kalemegdan Park and Belgrade Fortress, where the Sava meets the Danube, and back along Knez Mihailova Street.

Day 2 Novi Sad and Sremski Karlovci
A day in Vojvodina: Petrovaradin Fortress above the Danube, Novi Sad's old town, and Sremski Karlovci, where you taste Bermet in a family wine cellar. Stop at Krušedol Monastery on Fruška Gora on the way back to Belgrade.

Day 3 Hosted Topola, Takovo and a village night
Drive south into Šumadija. In Topola, see Karađorđe's Town and the mosaics of Oplenac, then continue to Takovo, where the Second Serbian Uprising began in 1815. In the late afternoon, arrive at a family farm in the villages below Rudnik for dinner and the night.

Day 4 Studenica to Zlatibor
After breakfast on the farm, drive south to Studenica, Stefan Nemanja's white-marble monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and spend unhurried time with its frescoes. In the afternoon, continue west through the hills to Zlatibor for two nights.

Day 5 Sirogojno and the pršuta makers
Explore Sirogojno's Old Village, where log farmsteads from across Zlatibor have been reassembled, and hear about the village's famous hand knitting. On the way back, visit a family smokehouse in Mačkat and taste pršuta straight from the hanging legs. The late afternoon is free on Zlatibor.

Day 6 The Šargan Eight and Drvengrad
Drive to Mokra Gora and board the heritage train on the Šargan Eight, which loops up the mountainside through tunnels and over bridges. Afterwards, walk up to Drvengrad, the timber village built by Emir Kusturica, then cross Tara to Bajina Bašta on the Drina for the night.

Day 7 Tara and back to Belgrade
Start early at Banjska stena, Tara's great viewpoint over the Drina canyon, then see the little house on the rock in the river at Bajina Bašta. After lunch, drive back to Belgrade for a final evening in the city.

About an hour and a half on Tara, then around three hours to Belgrade. Forest paths to the viewpoint; the edge is unfenced.

Signature moments
A village night instead of another hotel
Halfway through the journey, you leave the hotels behind for a night on a family farm in the villages below Rudnik, in the heart of Šumadija. Dinner is cooked by your hosts, and breakfast comes with kajmak made from the farm's milk.
Moving on, not coming back
Many Serbia tours stay in one Belgrade hotel and drive out and back each day. This journey moves on, so you wake up in Šumadija, on Zlatibor and by the Drina, and spend your time in places rather than on the motorway.
